The Heaven Can Wait Yacht Club, Inc, in conjunction with the Royal Motor Yacht Club Toronto, has issued a Preliminary Notice Of Race for the fifth annual Heaven Can Wait 24 Hour Yacht Race and One Lap Dash, to be held on Lake Macquarie (near Newcastle), NSW over the weekend of October 2-3, 2010.

The 24 hour event is open to sailboats that can comply with YA’s Category 5N (Category 7 for the One Lap Dash) requirements, with proceeds benefiting the NSW Cancer Council and the Marine Rescue Lake Macquarie.

The 2009 event attracted almost 70 boats across the two races – despite appalling weather -- and raised nearly $25,000 for the Cancer Council and the Royal Volunteer Coastal Patrol (now Marine Rescue).

Classes and divisions will be determined closer to the event, depending on numbers and types of boats entering. They may include, but will not be limited to, classic and modern yachts, trailerables and trailer-sailers, sportsboats, multihulls and cruising boats – so long as they meet the eligibility requirements.

The Organising Authority for the Event is the Heaven Can Wait Yacht Club (HCW YC), in conjunction with the Royal Motor Yacht Club Toronto (RMYC Toronto).

Racing will be governed by the 2009-2013 Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS) and the prescriptions of Yachting Australia (YA) except as changed by the Notice of Race and the Sailing Instructions. The event is classified as Category C in accordance with ISAF Regulation 20.

All yachts entering the race must be thoroughly seaworthy and must meet Yachting Australia’s Safety Category 5N (24 hour race) or Category 7 (One Lap Dash). For yachts competing in the 24 hour race, at least two crewmembers must have prior night sailing experience.

All racing will be conducted within the enclosed waters of Lake Macquarie, NSW, from the premises of RMYC Toronto.

The Notice of Race and Entry Form will be available from www.heavencanwait.com.au by July 15, 2010.
