Powerboat P1 - Acanfora asserts arsenal on old adversary

'Baia Attolini driver Stefano Acanfora (ITA), throttle Renato Guidi (ITA) and navigator Roy Capasso (ITA) finish 1st at round 6 of 2009 P1 Powerboat World Championships in San Benedetto Del Tronto, Italy.20090703Copyright onEdition 2009©'    Powerboat P1 World Championship ©

Such is his enthusiasm and eagerness to get back inside the Baia Attolini cockpit, Stefano Acanfora said he would race tomorrow if he could.

Hoping to match last year’s aggression, Acanfora is also keeping his fingers crossed that Renato Guidi, the lion of the team, will take up his position behind the throttles.

'I’m sure that Renato will race for us in 2010,' said Acanfora. 'His adrenaline levels are stronger than his fatigue, and week after week, his desire to race is growing.'

Similarly with team personnel, the new hull is also taking its shape nicely. 'We have made some technical and aesthetic changes. Now there is a windshield to ensure safety for the third driver.'

Acanfora confirmed the team are in talks with new sponsors, so he could not verify the identity of the third pilot. Like last year, Acanfora hopes that Roy Capasso can take his place in the powerboat, especially since the team appeared to be getting its tactics spot on during the penultimate rounds of the season.

So with Baia Attolini’s preparations for this season well underway, Acanfora wasted no time before he opened up the war of words with his Italian compatriot, reigning Powerboat P1 SuperSport Class World Champion, Angelo Tedeschi.

'We are extremely confident and prepared to win the title this year after coming so close in 2009. I’ve got a good feeling about this year. If Angelo Tedeschi is still in SuperSport, the battle will be even more tasty and we will be even more determined. I promise!

'There are so many other good teams that will each be competitive, Team 26, Spirit of Belgium and Al & Al, but we have to beat Angelo. It will be really tough for all of us, so the winner at the end of the season will definitely deserve it.'

Curious to see how each team reacts to the new rules, Acanfora concluded, 'I am convinced that the reliability of the boat will play a major factor in deciding the destination of the trophy. The new speed limit of 90 mph will certainly test everyone.'
