Port of Airlie achieves $11 million in sales

A summer sales surge has seen Port of Airlie notch up nearly $11.6 million in sales of luxury apartments, home sites and marina berths in just 12 weeks, attracting buyers both locally and from interstate.

The sales include $7.38 million for nine properties at the exclusive Boathouse Apartments which are managed by Outrigger Resorts, as well as $2 million for waterfront lots and more than $2 million in sales for marina berths.
The buying spree has left only a limited number of two and three bedroom apartments remaining, with all home sites in The Beacons precinct now sold out, and only two of 24 superyacht berths - measuring up to 50 metres - available.
Port of Airlie also has completed a range of 15 metre to 25 metre berths available for sale, with additional berths currently being constructed to meet increasing market demand, these include a limited number of 10 metre to 12 metre mono hull and some rare custom-size multi hull berths.
Port of Airlie Receiver and Manager Ken Whittingham said the nationwide buyer interest for both residential and marina property was a sign that confidence was returning to the Airlie Beach market, with the area currently undergoing a multi-million dollar rejuvenation.
'Airlie Beach is back in the national spotlight as the region undergoes a renaissance, including Council’s $17 million upgrade to the main street and a significant pipeline of activity at Port of Airlie,' he said.
'The latest spate of sales has actually been lead by interstate buyers from as far afield as Western Australia, Tasmania and Adelaide, with local buyers also showing confidence in the market and representing about 40 per cent of purchasers.
'The key drawcards for Port of Airlie is its location at the gateway to the Whitsunday Islands, and the diversity of product on offer to suit a range of purchasers - from those looking for a well priced apartment or marina berth through to buyers looking for a luxury penthouse, waterfront property or superyacht berth.'
Mr Whittingham said the recent sales and development upgrades would translate to an increased level of activity around the Port of Airlie, with more tourists expected, new residents set to move in and a range of stunning boats to be moored in the harbour over the coming weeks.
'We have had a very successful summer season here at Port of Airlie - with a near full house at the Boathouse Apartments as tourists from all over the country came to soak up the sun in the Whitsundays,' he said.
'Solid occupancy levels and the new partnership between Port of Airlie and Cruise Whitsundays has led to renewed confidence from investors, who have secured Boathouse Apartments as holiday homes and lock and leave investment properties.
'The first residents in The Beacons waterfront residential precinct have settled in, with a number of new homes currently under construction. We also anticipate the final two superyacht berths will go quickly, as they represent the only opportunity to secure a 95 year lease on a berth this size in the North Queensland region.
'We look forward to seeing the marina fill with a whole range of amazing boats over the coming weeks, cementing Port of Airlie's reputation as the main anchorage point for those looking to position themselves close to the islands and the heart of town.'
