The award-winning Cape Panwa Hotel Phuket Raceweek presented by Mount Gay Rum is set to take place 17 – 21 July 2013. Four days of world-class yacht racing in Phuket, Thailand, combined with four nights of magical, beachside parties at the five-star Cape Panwa Hotel which again is opening its doors wide to sailors – their facilities, exclusive beach and pier are at the event’s disposal.
As well as being the event’s Title Sponsor, together with Kantaray Bay, Cape Panwa Hotel are Host Sponsors for Raceweek and building on their resounding success last year will deliver an unrivalled onshore experience for the 10th Anniversary Cape Panwa Hotel Phuket Raceweek.
Returning for their third year (second year as Presenting Sponsor) are Mount Gay Rum. The single biggest regatta sponsor in the world, Mount Gay Rum first joined Phuket Raceweek in 2011 and officially launched into Thailand at the event. Last year saw the launch of Mount Gay Rum XO at Raceweek and for 2013 Mount Gay Rum have again chosen the Cape Panwa Hotel Phuket Raceweek as their signature regatta in Thailand and will welcome participants with a Barbados-themed opening party.
On-the-water, Cape Panwa Hotel Phuket Raceweek continues to hit the high notes with an exciting race programme. In July, the consistent good winds makes Phuket's East Coast the best place for racing, and Principal Race Officer Simon James is planning a variety of short and island courses, making it competitive and fun for all the classes.
A strong line-up of IRC boats, cruisers, sportsboats and multihulls will be taking part, and in keeping with tradition the Regatta will host the best Classic Class in South East Asian waters.
'What's unique about Phuket Raceweek is the race area. The East Coast delivers good winds at this time of year and the racing area allows for a variety of race courses – something to suit all boats. The race area also allows us to set interesting courses for the classic yachts, giving them the opportunity to stretch their legs and show off their elegance,' commented Simon James, Principal Race Officer.
With years of experience and involvement in events, Byron Jones, Managing Director of co-organiser Media Business Services (MBS), is expecting the 10th Anniversary to be the best yet.
'We're proud to be celebrating the 10th Anniversary this year and we are excited to be back at Cape Panwa Hotel. Last year the service, the venue and the racing was second to none. We will continue to build on the past nine years of success and will take the Cape Panwa Hotel Phuket Raceweek into a new decade in
