The Derwent River will come alive this weekend with the annual running of the Peter Johnson Mini Series by the Sandy Bay Sailing Club. The Regatta is a long standing event on the clubs calendar but has received new life with the current committee keen to build the event into a 'must do' on the Tasmanian sailing calendar.
Club Commodore Nick Connor is keen to see the event evolve and cater to as many off the beach classes as possible. 'The Sandy Bay Sailing Club has a long and proud tradition of producing champion sailors.' he said 'This regatta is a big deal for our volunteer run club and will provide yet another chance for Tassie sailors to sharpen their swords before their national championships, we expect some great racing over the weekend.' With over eighty entries already including Optis, Sabots, International Cadets, Lasers, Flying Elevens, 29ers and the popular Paper Tiger Catamarans the Derwent will literally be a sea of sails come Saturday. Sunday will close with a relaxed BBQ and prize giving.
