Mark Pescott, helming DaVinci this time around, has won the Bay Regatta eight times on various boats, including his own Summersalt. Jim Ellis has won The Bay Regatta six times on Remington; Niels Degenkolw has also won it six times (four times on Phoenix, and twice on La Sumudra). So no one has won the regatta more than six times on one boat, but Ellis (currently locked in a fierce battle with Degenkolw) has a chance to do just that this year.

The idea for The Bay Regatta was concocted by a group of Phuket-based sailors on a weekend sailing rally to Chong Lat 15 years ago. Then, as now, the Ao Chalong Yacht Club played a huge role in the formation and running of the regatta.

Day three of The Bay Regatta saw sailors leave from the anchorage off the Sheraton Krabi Beach Resort just north of Ao Nang only to return there for the evening’s party.

The five-boat Racing Class saw the top two finishers swap positions compared with their finishes of the previous two days. Ruby Tuesday dropped back to second with Nikiforov Evgenii’s Gastion winning and Scott Duncanson’s Quantum Fusion coming in third for the third straight day. Standings after day three saw Ruby Tuesday atop the leader board with four points, Gastion close behind in second with five points and Quantum Fusion in third with nine points. For the second time in three days Quantum Fusion was the quickest boat across the water finishing in 2:58:35.

In the nine-boat Cruising A class Neils Degenkolw Phoenix took first solidifying his lead in the class with four points, Jim Ellis’ Remington fell back to third place giving him six points overall while Richard Macfarlane’s Aida jumped to second on the day giving him
eight points overall.

Gavin Welman’s Rascal took first in the eight-boat Cruising B action with Charlie Preen’s Seventh Heaven coming second and Kevin Perran’s Rusalka third. That left, Rascal atop the class with six points; Rusalka in second with nine and Seventh Heaven third with twelve points.

The seven-boat Bareboat Charter division was won by Kochnev Petr’s Tonicola 2 with Kozub Sergey’s Creme Brulee (aka Venture) placing second and Paul Kendall’s Anchali taking third. Overall, Crème Brulee leads with four points, Tonicola 2 in second with five and Anchali is in third with twelve.

Today, the 13-boat Multihull Class was won by Hans Rahman’s Voodoo Child with Andrew Stransky’s Fantasia placing second and the MarkPescott helmed DaVinci coming in third Overall, Fantasia leads the class with five points, DaVinci is in second with nine points and Voodoo Child is third with 11 points.
