PSA Laser Coaching Clinics and Demo Days – Sign up today!

Are you interested in coaching to improve your skills or to try sailing a Laser?

The Laser dinghy is the world's most popular adult and youth racing class largely due to its affordability and for being simply rigged making it easy to get out on the water yet, to be fast, requires specific skills unique to Laser sailing. PSA is offering you the opportunity to fast track your learning process to ensure that you are able to maximize the pleasure that sailing your Laser brings.

Sailing a Laser is a great way to keep fit as it is so much fun to sail that you don’t notice how hard you have trained until afterwards. It is harder work to sail however and less pleasurable when you don’t know how to best harness the energy. A few technique and rigging tips from the experts can make a huge difference to the boats performance.

PSA has recruited some of the world’s top Laser sailors to host a series of coaching clinics in your area including two former ISAF World Ranked No 2’s, dual-Olympian Sarah Blanck and Olympian Laura Baldwin. Register your interest today and help us to make sure that we offer the services you require by telling us more precisely what you ideally want, where and when.

Does coaching really take a difference, certainly Sarah and Laura are living proof.

Laura Baldwin, British Olympian now campaigning for Australia in a bid to win Olympic Gold in London 2012 and one of the PSA team of Laser Coaches. says 'I was a club level sailor when watching the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games on TV inspired me to want to try and become a world class sailor. I hired some of the world’s best coaches to help me learn all the skills required to be the best.

The result went way beyond my wildest dreams as I qualified myself for the 2004 Athens Olympic Games just three years after commencing upon what seemed to be a rather far fetched pipe dream.

Now I’d like to share the wealth of knowledge I have acquired to help others experience the exhilarating buzz generated when you feel the boat sailing at its full potential'

Sarah Blanck says 'My first ever experience with a coach was about 6 weeks prior to competing in the Youth World Championships in the Laser Radial class. With only 8-10 sessions on the water, I improved so much, that I won the World Championships. I would not have achieved this without getting a coach to help me prepare. The rest is history, I won three World titles and sailed at two Olympic Games...

'Coaching can give you another perspective to your sailing. Coaching will make a difference to all levels in sailing, whether it's to get around the race course at your club, or to compete and achieve your goals at international competition. It's a great way for you to learn to manage your boat better, improve racing, learn about equipment, and enjoy our sport of sailing.'

PSA is offering Laser demo sessions at clubs as well as charter boats for use at the coaching clinics.

In and of itself it is hardly the freshest news, and well and truly yesterday’s fish wrapper. It was also a wise choice on behalf of Team USA, for he has succeeded in both the physical and commercial arms of our sport.

You spin me right round

Vinyl records went the way of the dodo with first CDs, and then now with the likes of MP3 and streaming. Recently, we have had unbelievable records set by Thomas Coville and then Armel Le Cléac’h. Soon (with over 1200nm in the bank as it were), it would seem to be the turn of the crew on board IDEC Sport for a record after their spin right round, as well. This is quite simply, terrific stuff.

Lounge Music
What a groovy time that all was. Very sophisticated, and was the world so much simpler back then or what? What a groovy time that all was. Very sophisticated, and was the world so much simpler back then or what? It even managed it’s own parody with Jerry Lewis and the über-cool Purple Pit in the original Nutty Professor. I’ll just have an Alaskan Polar Bear Heater right now, thank you… Some will get their noses all twisted up about now saying it is all elevator music, but it was so well orchestrated

And you can be sure that it is very much a product of, and absolutely going to change, the future of our sport. OK. Well that pretty much sets up a mindset from a time long, long ago. However, this is something from the here and now. And you can be sure that it is very much a product of, and absolutely going to change, the future of our sport. Had he not shown me this image he took during the recent Rolex Big Boat Series on San Francisco Bay, then this editorial would not have come to pass.

Ah yes! It could only be the truly inimitable Dr. Rumack (Leslie Nielsen) from Airplane! Ah yes! It could only be the truly inimitable Dr. Rumack (Leslie Nielsen) from Airplane! (And that takes us all the way back to 1980 – believe it or not.) You know the lines; it’s when Ted Striker says, “Surely you cannot be serious?” To which Rumack then replies, “I am serious, and don’t call me Shirley!”

Yes, the proverbial door has been cast ajar before, often to much fanfare, and not that much has been achieved.

Is it just the one connection, or could there indeed be several ways to address this conundrum? Well the route of the answer could be SailX, the online inshore racing game.
