Latest update! Eleven Days ago West Australian Bob Williams launched the 2011 Around Australia Race and Rally. 'The majority of the slot reservations are from the Pacific Ocean coast with New South Wales dominating but the Indian Ocean Coast, represented by Western Australia, South Australia and Victoria, are all consistently claiming slots. Overseas entries from New Zealand, the UK, and the USA.

Finn Gold Cup declared open in Denmark

So far 89 Finn sailors from 30 nations have completed registration and measurement to compete for the 2009 title and on Sunday afternoon the practice race took place in the waters off the harbour.

Philippe Kahn and Mark Christensen are out to set the Transpac doublehanded record of 10:4:4:49 by Howard Gordon and Jay Crum in 2001 with Etranger.

A second placing in race 9 and a win in race 10, meant they did not need to finish the final and 11th race in the series to win the Trophy.

The July 3rd Daily Standings as of 0600 PDT for Transpac 09 have the Spanish crew aboard Charisma leading the charge to Hawaii.
Lynx, the heavy tall ship, has only chipped about 220 miles off of the vast 2,225-nautical mile journey. They may be plodding along, but the Lynx crew is enjoying themselves.

Ian Bruce (Montreal) builder and co-designer of the International Laser class, was awarded the Order of Canada on Canada Day, 1st July. Bruce was one of 60 new appointments to the Order of Canada. Former President of ISAF, Paul Henderson described the award as a 'great honour for Ian and his beloved sport of Sailing.

Divisions 3, 4 and 5 started their Transpac race. Tachyon III, Kanzunori Komatu’s Santa Cruz 52, with members of the Japanese Olympic Sailing Team on board, led the parade out of the basin.
The 19-boat fleet of 45 to 60-foorters rushed the starting line. They were amped up with anticipation and testosterone and shot out of the blocks on their way to Ala Wai and Transpac Row.
