Olympic venue gets Loopwing Wind Turbine
'Loopwing turbine at WPNSA'

The official 2012 sailing venue, the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy (WPNSA), will be continuing their environmental support with the help of their sponsor ‘Scottish and Southern Energy’ (SSE).

The energy company who won in association with the Academy the prestigious 2008 Sport Industry Award for ‘Environmental Concern in Sport’ is now installing a new ‘loopwing wind turbine’ at the Weymouth and Portland site.

John Tweed, Director of Development at WPNSA commented, ‘I am delighted to inform everyone that the planning application for Scottish and Southern Energy’s loopwing wind turbine has been granted, the new technology will be installed shortly at the Academy. This continues our commitment to meeting LOCOG’s target that 20% of electricity generated for the Academy is done so using renewable energy by the end of 2011’.

The loopwing wind turbine is a revolutionary new type of turbine which due to its innovative design causes it to be silent in operation. The plan is to install a 2 kilowatt turbine, in the position shown on the attached rendered image.
