Yachts that are 30 years or more will be competing for the 'Veterans Cup Perpetual Trophy'. Creatively... yachts and skippers who have a combined age for 90+ years will also be competing for the Alex Whitworth’s 'Old Farts Dogs Bowl Trophy'.

The 'Old Farts Dogs Bowl Trophy' is one of the original stainless steel Dogs Bowls that was used by Alex Whitworth and Peter Crozier for the epic trip around the world in their famous yacht Berrimilla. A similar Dogs Bowl Trophy has been presented to the Fastnet race for the best double handed division boat from Class 3 in the Fastnet. It will be mounted and made a new perpetual trophy.

Proudly sponsored by Holey Dollar Rum winners will be awarded a bottle of Holey Dollar Silver Rum.

Just entering the Holey Dollar Veterans Cup earns skippers and crew the opportunity to win in the special Xmas Cup prize pool draw.

Division 3 - Veterans Cup - Yachts flying spinnaker with a yacht age over 30yrs
Division 4 - Veterans Cup - Yachts flying spinnaker with a combined skipper and yacht age over 90yrs

Classic yacht Rampage is now owned by Lesley Pope. Lesley has been a driving force behind this new event and will be competing in the event.

Rampage is 37 years old. She was designed by Bob Miller and built in Freemantle for the Packer family in 1973 to enter in the 1973 Sydney Hobart. Rampage is a 40 footer, triple diagonal cold moulded mast head sloop.

She was entered and won her division in the 1973, 1974, 1975, 1976 Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race. She won the race on handicap in 1975 when Kialoa won line honours. Rampage went on to competitively race in numerous coastal races in Victoria and Queensland. Rampage became a cruising yacht in the early 1990’s and her current owner bought her in Mooloolaba in January 1997.

Lesley Pope, the owner/skipper of Rampage is keen to enter the 'Old Farts Dogs Bowl Trophy'.*

Berrimilla 2 is a Brolga 33, designed by Australian Peter Joubert and launched in 1977. She has sailed in 17 Sydney - Hobart races, 14 of them with her current owner, Alex Whitworth, winning PHS overall in the stormy 1998 race. She has also sailed in nine Gosford - Lord Howe races, winning PHS in 1999.

She has circumnavigated the world twice. Her first circumnavigation started with the 2004 Sydney- Hobart yacht race, continued from Hobart via Cape Horn and the UK and back to Sydney around the Cape of Good Hope in time for the 2005 Sydney-Hobart race. While in the UK she competed in the Fastnet race and finished 11th overall out of 300 and second in the Double Handed division. As a result of this achievement, there is now a Berrimilla Dogbowl Trophy for the best double hander from Class 3 in the Fastnet Race.

After her return from this voyage, Berrimilla was rolled, severely damaged and dismasted south east of Gabo Island while returning from the 2006 Sydney – Hobart. Subsequently repairs took about six months. http://www.berrimilla.com/tng/docs/berrimilla.pdf

Berrimilla’s second circumnavigation started on April 10th 2008 following an invitation from NASA scientists working on Devon Island in the Canadian Arctic to rendezvous at Beechey Island (74.42N 091.46W) for the total solar eclipse on August 1st 2008. Berrimilla sailed directly from Sydney to the Aleutians and then via the North West Passage to Falmouth, UK where she was laid up for the winter. En route, she sailed to within 40 miles of Beechey Island but called off the rendezvous because of dangerous ice conditions.

The original intention was to return to Australia from the UK via the Northern Sea Route – the North East Passage north of Russia but the permit to do so arrived too late for a safe transit before the 2009 winter freeze. Accordingly, after sailing the 2009 Fastnet, Berrimilla returned to Australia via the Cape of Good Hope, with stops at Lisbon, Cape Town and the Kerguelen Islands (49.40 S 070.04E) arriving back in Sydney in March 2010.
