Ken Davis, aged 82, and his 84-year-old tactician Miles Kolosov, today combined to sail Davis' Jeanneau one-design 30, Starstruck Daveau, to victory in Division J of the BMW Sydney Winter Series on Sydney Harbour.

'We are a crew of veterans, when we sail on Wednesday afternoon races, the crew have 370 years between them,' skipper Davis said at the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia this afternoon. Davis has been a CYCA member for 36 years.

Race 8 of the BMW Sydney Winter Series was almost a repeat of the previous Sunday, a 10-15 knot breeze that swung from south-west to south-east and back to south-west during the race, as well as going up and down in wind strength.

In Division J, Starstruck Daveau continued its excellent form of two thirds and a win in three races with the veteran crew delighted with their win today from Chancellor (Ted Tooher) and overall pointscore leader Wings Three (Paul Bellingham).

Today was a day of intense tactical racing with just three races to sail in the BMW Sydney Winter Series as the big fleet tackled tricky winter conditions.

In Division A, You're Hired (Geoff Morgan and Andrew Banks) got the gun for the second weekend from CYCA Commodore Geoff Lavis in UBS Wild Thing and Denis O'Neil's Atomic which still leads the series.

John Cameron's Fincorp More Witchcraft also scored its second successive win in Division B, beating Dean Harrigan's Play Station Portable (with its spectacular mainsail) and Warwick Sherman's Occasional Coarse Language.

Division C saw a fine win by front-marker Superfine (George Waldhausen) from the Syndicate-owned Akela and Bear Necessity (Andrew and Pauline Dally).

Pendragon, Andrew Cochrane's Stewart 34 made a rare appearance in the BMW Winter Series and took out Division C from Wave Dancer (Rob McConchie) and Scarlett O'Hara (Robert Skol). The third place lifts Skol and his all-girl (and rather demonstrative) crew to equal place on the BMW Sydney Winter Series pointscire with MRX (John Short and Miles Bastick).

In Division D, Alpha Carinae (Travor Jarrett) scored an all the way win from Supermova (David Bates) and Krakatoa (Don Young).

Division F produced a close five-boat duel to the finish, with only two minutes separating winner Carnaval (Bernie Van Hof) and the next four finishers, Racy Lady (Andrew and David Lukas), Hornblower (Peter Campbell), Umbakumba (Dawn Murray and David Stenhouse) and Clewless? (Guy Irwin).

Division G saw a win for Excess (Michael Cherry) from Naughty Call (Gregg Watson) and Razors Edge, skippered by Ray Stone, a former Blue Waters Pointscore champion. Naughty Call's second place has strengthened the boat's grip on the overall pointscore.

Gusto (Phillip Denison) won its second race of the Winter Series with a runaway victory in Division K from Hubcap (Heerman Heiligers) and Quetzal (Brian Clayton).

The Sydney 38 Division again saw close racing with the gun going to Next (R.Holstein/S.Kellie) from Calibre (Geoff Bonus) and John Messenger's Utopia.
