North Sails F11 Sail Development

by North Sails on 27 Nov 2011
Flying Eleven Sail Rigging Dave O'Connor
During the past four months, the North Sails One Design Australia crew have been hard at work on developing a new set of Flying eleven performance sails. Both Michael Coxon and David O’Connor have been developing and perfecting these designs with a couple of young sailors from Lake Macquarie as an initiative to become more involved with junior sailing in Australia.

These designs have been signed off on and each boat is custom measured by the North Sails Team. This allows the designers to create a virtual boat and rig on the North Sails Design Software to optimize the seam shape and panel lay out for each boat and sail to create a smoother mould shape and more efficient twist profile. One of the new design features include a Bi radial spinnaker which radiates out of the clew to directly follow the load path of the sail and push the shape all the way to the edges creating a better projection and flying shape of the spinnaker

Below is a video from a North Sails training and testing session with Beynon and Curtis from Lake Macquarie who have been involved with the sail development and are gearing up to compete at the States and Nationals this year.
