Normandy Sailing Week – Powerful gusts on Day 2

Le Havre - 7 June - Normandy Sailing Week 2012 Jean-Marie Liot / NSW12
Normandy Sailing Week 2012 is currently underway in Le Havre, France. With too much wind sweeping across Le Havre, Race Management has decided to cancel today’s racing. As such, all those crews on the 100 competing boats are to remain on shore.

Manfred Ramspacher, Event Organiser: 'Weather conditions are such that safety is overly compromised. The seas are heavy and there are some powerful gusts of over 35 knots on the race zone. We’re calling all the racers back tomorrow, where a series of races will be run from 1100 hours local time.'

Daniel Souben, skipper of 'Courrier Dunkerque': 'We’re disappointed not to be able to race but there is much too much wind. Instead we’re going to get some rest, do a debrief of the first days of racing and check over our gear.'

Cecile Keriel, J80 'Jaws': 'We have no choice. We’re remaining on shore, though we were certainly up for it today. Tomorrow’s another day and we’ll be able to kick off our J80 competition then.'

Fabien Henry, skipper of 'Toulon Provence Méditérrannée', leader in the provisional overall standing in the M34 category: 'It’s a wise decision. We’re not keen to break our boat 15 days before the start of the Tour de France à la Voile. In any case, with the current and the wind, the Race Committee would have had some issues laying a Normandy Sailing Week website
