Nokia Oops Cup, Faerder Race start

It was tactic and peaceful manoeuvres onboard the three 60 feet trimarans when the start went off for Faerder Race, the second competition in Nokia Oops Cup.

It was a very light breeze, sunlight and hundreds of spectator boats in Oslo harbour. HiQ was on the weather beam and seemed to get the best start, but on the fjord the three boats were in the leading position several times.

HiQ took the command back after half an hour of sailing. They sailed close to land and got the breeze first of everyone, and took the leading back again.

One hour later, it was Nokia Academy’s turn. The tactic was to sail close to land to get the wind there, before they got out on more open water towards Droback.
With a speed around 10 knots and the pontoons in the air, Nokia Academy took the lead, just some hundred metres ahead of HiQ and TietoEnator Audi.

That was also the situation when the trio rounded the second checkpoint, Fildtved, around three hours after the start.

The trimarans will be sailing all the way to Skagen and back to Horten in Norway.

Nokia Academy and HiQ got the new wind first and now we are fighting to get them, reported the skipper onboard TietoEnator Audi, Thomas Johanson at 15.20.

The wind is increasing out on the sea, and the record attempt to make the route between Faerder and Skagen in less than three hours is still possible.
