IMOCA Ocean Race Masters New York to Barcelona 2014 - El Neutrogena de Guillermo Altadill y José Muñoz ha finalizado la IMOCA Ocean Masters New York to Barcelona Race sin tirar la toalla hasta la línea de llegada.

A las 01 horas 05 minutos y 17 segundos, el Neutrogena cortó la línea de llagada, tras invertir 14 días, 6 horas y 17 segundos en completar el recorrido desde Nueva York. Han sido dos semanas muy intensas, durante las cuales no han dado su brazo a torcer. Presionando sin cesar a sus competidores y manteniendo un duelo épico con el Hugo Boss.

Tan orgullosos estaban de su regata, que incluso del fallido ataque final en las horas previas a su llegada guardan un imborrable recuerdo. 'En la regata hemos tenido momentos peores y mejores. Como mejor recuerdo me quedo con las horas finales, parecía que íbamos más rápidos y hemos llegado a tener la esperanza de encontrar algo. Los hemos llegado a ver, y pensábamos que podían quedar encalmados y atraparlos. Hasta el final hemos tenido opciones', explicaba Altadill tras cortar la línea de llegada.


Partían de Nueva York con las miras puestas en la propia regata, pero también como banco de pruebas de cara a la próxima Barcelona World Race. Esta era la primera vez que ambos patrones navegaban a dos y competían juntos, y uno de sus objetivos era comenzar a trabajar como tripulación. 'Estoy contento, ha sido una regata muy exigente, muy disputada. Creo que la compenetración ha sido buena, y nos ha permitido conocernos en competición', comentaba el regatista chileno José Muñoz, que debutaba en un IMOCA 60. 'Físicamente es un barco muy duro, me ha sorprendido la exigencia física. Lo he notado y acusado un poco. Comparado con el Class 40 todo requiere más fuerza; mover las velas, cazar desde el winche…'.

Sin duda, muchas millas después, Muñoz y Altadill seguirán recordando con satisfacción su IMOCA Ocean Masters New York to Barcelona Race, su consistencia o la épica lucha con el Hugo Boss, a quien felicitaron con honestidad: 'Han hecho una gran regata, navegando muy bien. Hay que felicitarles. Hemos estado presionándoles días y días, tirando a tope para estar cerca y a la expectativa de un posible error que nos permitiera pasarles. Incluso la fiabilidad de nuestro barco, no ha sido una baza suficiente para doblegarles. Felicidades a Pepe y a Ryan, se lo han trabajado muy bien'.
