National 12 at Trent Valley SC Open
by Paul Turner on 16 May 2008
Saturday was hot and sunny for the National 12 Open at Trent Valley SC, but racing was postponed as zephyrs appeared and disappeared. Finally a short course was laid but everyone was line shy. Graham started first, and a battle royale developed between John Sears and Brian Cobb for second place which was only resolved in Sears’ favour late in the race.
On Sunday the first race saw John Sears make the best start. The fleet bunched at the top mark, but James in second place had to do a 720. The result was Graham first followed by John & Brian.
The second race saw John getting an overlap on Graham to round the top mark first but the final result was the usual order!
The third race started in freshening breeze. Graham (now crewed by sister Julia) and John were first off the line and the result was again as predicted!
The fourth race resulted in some excitement! Microclipper had an incident with a river cruiser on the line, despite only four boats racing there was still a general recall on the first start and Graham handed over his boat to brother in law Andy. Andy initially broke away only to be caught by John who finished first with Andy second.
