New York YC in Newport Rhode Island hosts its third Bi-Annual Invitational Cup from September 7th - 14th. The Canadian entry from the Royal Canadian Yacht Club in Toronto is skippered by Terry Mclaughlin. After a runner-up finish in the inaugural Invitational Cup, the Canadian crew returned with purpose in 2011, dominating the regatta from start to finish for a 20-point win.
Mclaughlin and many of his core crewmembers, including tactician John Hele, return for their third Invitational Cup. After a full season of practice onboard Daring they are likely to be fast in a straight line and sharp turning the corners. Mclaughlin won a silver medal in the 1984 Olympics, skippered the Canadian entry in the 1983 America’s Cup challenger elimination series, and won two Canada’s Cup match-racing competitions. a number of his crew date back to that 1983 challenge, so familiarity with each other should be the least of their
