The Musto Skiff World Championships proceeded with the second of a two day pre-worlds warm up regatta. The fleet were chomping at the bit after the previous day's delay so as the rain stopped, the sun shone and the breeze did its part to lay on a great playing field inside the harbour at WPNSA.

The first race got under way with a huge fleet of Musto Skiffs lining up together on the start, there was an individual recall of just two boats as the fleet kicked into gear.

Dave Poston (GBR) led at the windward mark closely followed by Bruce Keen (GBR) and Andy Peake (GBR). The fleet flew downwind in dramatic style. Keen overhauled Poston and a hard charging Tom Wright (GBR) pulled through from a poor start to claim the last podium spot. UK class chairman, Jon Simpson had the race of his life to take fourth.

The breeze built in race two to 18-23 knots and the fleet were a bit eager first time round, being general recalled. The well-practiced WPNSA team headed by PRO David Campbell-James got them all back and restarted clean under a black flag.

Current UK national champion Bruce Keen led at the windward mark, closely followed by Richard Stenhouse (GBR) and Andy Peake.

Stenhouse gybed earlier than the boats around him and pulled through to take the lead. He wasn’t to be headed but was chased hard by Australian class chairman Jon Newman, only taking the gun by five seconds. Keen took third place and with that the win of the Pre-World Championships.

The fleet has a day off before the ACO World Championships starts, with Monday evening being handed over to top rules expert Trevor Lewis who is presenting a seminar on the racing rules to the sailors at 20:00.
