Mooloolaba 200- cash prize for division winners

by Tracey Johnstone on 23 Sep 2013
Mooloolaba 200, Rod Jones and his Audi A5 team will be the largest boat entry in the inagural regatta Beverley Chew
The October long-weekend inaugural Audi Centre Sunshine Coast Mooloolaba 200 regatta has cash prizes up for grabs for each of the division winners.

The first place overall on handicap in the monohull and multihull divisions for the AUDI Centre Sunshine Coast Mooloolaba 200 Offshore Classic and for the Inshore SB20 class, Monohull and Multihull cruising divisions will be in the running to win their division’s cash prize of $500.

The only restriction on winning a prize is that a division must have a minimum of five entries.

Mooloolaba Yacht Club is hosting the inaugural event on the weekend of fifth and October 6th 2013. Entries have been received in most divisions including Wayne Bloomer’s Chill Pill from Brisbane and Tim McCall’s Arcadia from Yeppon. The cash prize will be a strong incentive for other skippers to get their entries before close of entries on October 2nd so they don’t miss out an exciting weekend of sailing and parties.

The Audi Centre Sunshine Coast Mooloolaba 200 has both Offshore and Inshore racing on offer.

The Offshore course is for performance monohulls and multihulls racing in the 200 nautical mile Classic, set to test different points of sailing and present tactical opportunities.

Inshore the SB20 class plus cruising multihulls, and a combined fleet of monohulls and trailables, will be racing on passage and windward/leeward courses.

This long offshore race fleet will head out on Saturday October 5th to head north from Mooloolaba into Noosa’s Laguna Bay. It then heads further north to Wolf Rock, just off Double Island Point, before turning south-east for Flinders Reef. From the reef the fleet take a zig-zag course heading west to the outer Gneerings, just off Mooloolaba Bay, then back into the coast to Caloundra before heading east again for the penultimate leg out to Flinders Reef. The final leg is a westerly track home to the finish off Mooloolaba and the big prize-giving party.

The inshore fleet have much-less demanding distances to cover. On Saturday October 5th the SB20s and Cruising divisions will coastal race 40 nautical miles north to Noosa and back to Mooloolaba in the Laguna Bay Challenge. Then on Sunday the Cruising Division including the Trailables will have a short passage race in Mooloolaba Bay while the SB20s will compete nearby on a windward/leeward course.
