Marmaris International Race Week is now underway in one of Turkey’s tourist hotspots. Teams and boats have been split into eight groups and the many sailors gathered in this popular port town in the Mediterranean coast for the 23rd edition of this exciting event, were eager to get started with the always demanding inshore races scheduled for today.

Though we’re nearing November, the weather remains warm here in Turkey – but by the end of this first day, gusty winds posed great challenges to participating athletes, and a storm even broke out toward the end of today’s races. If nothing else, this confirms the levels of skill and preparation necessary for sailing in competitive events like this one.

Many teams enjoyed great performances in the course of a very full first day today – among the very best teams was the one on board the ‘Courrier de Coeur’ boat in the IRC 1 category, while in IRC 2, the day belonged to ‘Sail & Sail’. In the two further groups in the IRC category, Iscorpit and Hadar finished first. As for the four IRC Charter groups, it was ‘Laloba’, ‘Thetis’, ‘Ricarda’ and ‘Attila 2’ that excelled here, and hope to be able to repeat these top performances tomorrow.

America's Cup - Scary video from today's collision between GBR and JPN
LRBAR's hull not been stopped by SBTJ's windward foil there would have been serious injuries aboard the Japanese boat. All I can say is that had LRBAR's hull not been stopped by SBTJ's windward foil there would have been serious injuries aboard the Japanese boat. Moreover, notwithstanding the damage done to Land Rover BAR's boat, there must be considerable damage to the dagger-foil case of SBTJ. Considerable.

Onboard Phaedo^3's Transpacific Course World Record run across Pacific
The past few years we have had a good share of success with at least one wrong turn in our racing program. When Brian Thompson and I were planning the Phaedo3 program we had a wish list of races and records which would be nice to attempt if we had a MOD70.
