Malibu’s Evolution Pro Series to feature as one-third of WBW Series

by World Wakeboard Association on 21 Feb 2015
2015 Wakeboard World Series World Wakeboard Association
With the announcement of the new Malibu Evolution Pro Series at the WWA’s 25th-anniversary celebration last fall, a new standard was set for professional wakeboarding. With a 2015 schedule that includes stops in Mexico, Japan, and the Unites States, the Malibu Evolution Pro Series will bring the best athletes in the sport to some of its most amazing venues.

'Malibu has been a great partner, sharing our vision of what this series should be,' says WWA president Shannon Starling. 'These three events will showcase the global depth of the Wakeboard World Series. Last year’s Cancun event was a huge success. We can’t wait to return to Japan and then hit the Houston site for the first time.'

While competing in the three-event series, with a separate overall purse of $20,000, the competitors will also be earning points in the overall WWA Wakeboard World Series. The first stop of the Evolution Pro Series will be the Malibu Cancun Pro, April 24–26, presented by Rockstar Energy Drink.

'Malibu and the WWA have really stepped it up for the Evolution Pro Series,' said Malibu Pro Team rider Dallas Friday. 'This series is going to be great. We’re going back to Cancun, where I won last fall, as well as returning to Japan for the first time in years. It’s going to make all of us push harder and raise the competition level.'

The official towboat for each event will come from Malibu’s award-winning Wakesetter line, which provides a perfect wake for every skill level, allowing the driver to fine-tune it for everyone from first-time wakeboarders to the stars of the WWA World Series.

'In keeping with Malibu’s mission, the Cancun Pro was innovative and first-class in every way, from the venue and the boat to the competition and the star treatment given to both the athletes and the fans,' says Malibu CEO Jack Springer. 'The Evolution Pro Series is the logical next step, allowing Malibu to bring the best events with the best boats to the sport we love. Working with our fantastic partner, the WWA, we’ve created these events to showcase the athletes at great venues to help propel the sport to ever higher levels.'

The Malibu Cancun Pro will be the second round of the Wakeboard World Series, April 24–26; the Malibu Tokyo Pro will be the seventh round, August 21–23; and the Malibu Houston Pro, October 2–3, will serve as the WBWS finale.
