The first race of the finals between Mascalzone Latino Audi Team and host team ETNZ took place along the Auckland waterfront in the Waitemata Harbour.

It was a hard-fought race, which saw the kiwis dominate in the start and most of the upwind leg. The crew of Mascalzone Latino Audi Team sailed a perfect upwind leg, recovering the distance at the first mark and going on to roll the New Zealanders downwind. The arrival at the gate was heart-pounding with ML Audi Team slightly ahead in rounding the mark but the rapidly approaching kiwis were able to stick their bow inside. In the second upwind leg, a big wind shift favoured ETNZ, who took the lead and held onto it until the finish. Mascalzone were able to keep it close, finishing just 12 seconds behind at the line, proving themselves to be opponents worthy of great respect.

The final races of the best of five series will take place tomorrow. The forecast calls for light winds from the southwest and clear skies, but in these regions the weather can change quickly. The first to attain three wins will be able to raise the Louis Vuitton Trophy towards the sky.
