Louis Vuitton Trophy: Mascalzone Latino Audi Team in semifinals
|
With today's victory against the French of Aleph, Mascalzone Latino Audi Team proceeds directly to the semifinals together with the leader of the series, the home-team of ETNZ. Team Synergy and Aleph are out of the series, while the other four teams will battle it out against each other in the best of three races. For the Rascals it will be a well deserved day off, with a chance for the Italians to visit the beautiful surroundings of Auckland, while the Kiwi members of the crew can enjoy a day with the family. Wind gusts in Auckland's Waitemata Harbour were over 20 knots today, and the start of the race had to be postponed for more than an hour. Gavin Brady was aggressive right from the start when he attacked and controlled veteran Bertrand Pacè, at the helm of Aleph, leaving him late for the start in a play similar to that seen against Team Origin. The French didn't give up, and attacked in the first upwind leg, until an error aboard Aleph hoisting the spinnaker ripped the sail: from that moment the lead of Mascalzone Latino Audi Team went on to increase to a delta of one minute at the finish line. Tomorrow's races between the four contenders for a place in the semifinals will see Azzurra against All4One and Team Origin against Artemis. Results of the Elimination Round: Mascalzone Latino Audi Team beat Aleph (Aleph is eliminated) Emirates Team New Zealand beat Synergy (Synergy is eliminated) Artemis beat Azzurra TeamOrigin beat All4One Mascalzone Latino thanks Audi and Regione Sardegna for their support.
