London Olympics 2012 Sailing competition, Weymouth - 470 Women's class. The Women's 470 class were the final fleet to commence racing at the London 2012 Olympic Sailing Competition and Hannah Mills and Saskia Clark (GBR) have taken an early lead. Very little separates the top five but the Brits end the opening day of fleet racing on seven points after a sixth in Race 1 and a bullet in Race 2. In the first race the Brits hit the pin end at the start and did a penalty turn as Mills explained, 'We were a bit nervous and we had a muck up on our first start, but we came back from that. 'Our goal for the first day was not to do anything stupid and we did something stupid. But once you do your 360 degree turn then you get on with the day.' And they got on with their day very well coming back to finish sixth before a bullet in Race 2. On the race win Clark said, 'The fleet were pressing really hard to go to the left, but we tacked out of it quite early to get our own clear air. Getting a race win was pretty cool, especially at our home Olympics. But now we need to concentrate on getting a consistent regatta.' Lisa Westerhof and Lobke Berkhout (NED) won a great opening race after a ding dong battle with Jo Aleh and Olivia Powrie (NZL). Both crews battled up the first leg, sharing the lead, but in the end the experienced Dutch pair escaped to pull off the opening race win. The Kiwis end the day in second place whilst Westerhof and Berkhout are third overall. Top Five 1. Hannah Mills and Saskia Clark (GBR) - 7pts 2. Jo Aleh and Olivia Powrie (NZL) - 8pts 3. Lisa Westerhof and Lobke Berkhout (NED) - 9pts 4. Amanda Clark and Sarah Lihan (USA) - 10pts 5. Ai Kondo and Wakako Tabata (JPN) - 13pts Full results here for results ISAF website
