Lipton Cup Double and Etchells Goblets Regatta Review from North Sails
A busy weekend in Melbourne for the Lipton Cup where many of our clients achieved some top results in the tricky conditions.
Noel Drennan was sailing on board Phil Simpfendorfer's 'Veloce' who had a very successful regatta geared up with her inventory of both 3DL and 3Di sails finishing second on PHS and third in the IRC A division.
Jason Vanderslot's new Calm 2 sailed very consistently to take his second consecutive Lipton Cup win.
Bruce Mckraken's 'Ikon' continued to push Calm 2 all the way to the end winning the last two races and finishing closely behind in second.
The top four boats competing in IRC Div A were all geared up with a combination of 3DL and 3Di North Sails.
moving on to all things One Design. Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron hosted the annual Milsons Goblets Etchells twilight regatta last week. With 20 boats competing including some of Australia's top Etchells sailors and the harbour put on some spectacular sailing conditions with some very exciting and tight racing.
Going into the last day there was only one point separating the top four boats and in a really tricky fading SE each of them were in with a real chance.
Around the first top mark Marc Ryan's Viken managed to stay in the pressure up the beat followed closely by Steve Jarvin's Magie Pie who had John Harris and Mike Coxon filling in. It looked like these two boats where going to battle it out for the title win however, the North Sails team of Michael Coxon, Richie Allanson, Dave O'Connor and young Optimist sailor Flynn Twomey managed to gybe on top of the leaders and roll them on the down wind holding more pressure. The course was shorted at the bottom and they took the win.
Mark Ryan finished second and Steve Jarvin third.
It was great for young Flynn to compete in his first Etchells regatta and the win was a bonus. He hiked hard all week and backed up both Richie and Dave with great crew work.
After the success from the World Championship earlier this year the North Sails team are continuing with their sail development program, staying active in the class and servicing the fleet.
It was great to see the top four boats all geared up with North Sails.
