Laser to get new mainsheet blocks after 30 years

by Katie Ashworth on 16 Jun 2009
New Laser Blocks SW
LaserPerformance are to launch a new Laser block system, 30 years after the original design. The new system is stronger and reduces friction making it easier for the main to be released when sailing off the wind and in light airs.

The Laser block system is the first update to the part since its original design in the late ‘60’s, early ‘70’s. As the largest one design racing class in the world, the introduction of the new part has been a carefully co-ordinated project between the International Laser Class Association and LaserPerformance.

The blocks themselves were developed in conjunction with Harken. In fact, Harken will be producing them for LaserPerformance. 'Harken has been a great partner throughout the development of these new blocks. We relied heavily on their expertise and are really pleased with the results', said Chris Tunstall Technical Manager for LaserPerformance.

It is a fine balance between ensuring the competitors sailing ability wins the race wins, but at the same time allowing the development of one design class equipment so as not to fall behind beneficial developments of modern technology.

The Laser mainsheet block system is an excellent example of the manufacturer and a class working together to keep the class current and responding to the needs of its sailors.

The new blocks will be available to pre order from laserperformance.com or your local dealer on 19 June and will be available on 19 July 2009.
