For the first time in its history, the 44th edition of the legendary La Solitaire du Figaro will pass by Oporto, Portugal. The race comes to Portugal, between June 3-8 and the Figaro Beneteau 2 will stay at Douro Marina, on the south bank of the river Douro.
'La Solitaire du Figaro'
The race starts in Bordeaux, France, with 28 skippers at the entry list. Famous names like Michel Desjoyeaux or Armel Le Cléac 'h, will be on La Solitaire du Figaro 2013 edition’s.
The Douro Marina will mark the first leg’s finish. After the Portuguese stopover, the 28 boats will leave from Oporto to Gijon, Spain. La Solitaire du Figaro will also pass through the French town of Roscoff and will have its finale in Dieppe, also in France.
The success with the organization of the Extreme Sailing Series 2012, that will return again this year, was vital to the La Solitaire du Figaro to arrive in portugal. Douro Marina’s was the infrastructure that the historic city needed to affirm itself in the leading international sailing events. Douro Marina, in its first year of existence, has affirmed itself as a benchmark of quality, already attested by numerous teams in the Extreme Sailing Series.
The Douro Marina is a marina with 300 places of mooring for boats, which represents a new concept of marina that unites sport, leisure, tourism and nature at an innovative set of services and activities, not only for the Atlantic transit travelers, but also for locals and visitors alike. Situated on the South Bank of the River Douro, Douro Marina is the largest infrastructure for recreational boating between Cascais and Galicia, assuming as a staging point for navigators in transit on the West Coast, with the provision of services, of extremely high quality, non-existent in this part of the country.
