This past week, the SAP Extreme Sailing team ground crew worked diligently to prepare our training boat based in Aarhus, Denmark, ahead of our entry to the renowned Kieler Woche 2013. The annual event sees 5000 yachtsmen and women from 50 countries participating in what was the 131st edition of this week long sailing event (22nd – 30th June). We had a superb ride on the water from Aarhus to Kiel, and enjoyed showing our onboard experience competition winner, Erik Beck, just what the boat has to offer!

We opened the week competing in the ‘Welcome Race' on our SAP Extreme 40 multihull. This start took us up close and personal to the spectators at the start of the 27,5 nm race to Eckenforde.

'We got off to a great race start and just like the Palby Fyn Cup it ended up a two horse race between ‘Esimit Europa 2’ and us. We narrowly edged out the ‘Esimit’ race team to take line honors once again and were delighted to learn that we smashing the previous race speed record! We knew we had sailed well delivering clean racing, good boat handling and excellent crew dynamics which translated directly to our performance.' Rasmus Kostner

'Still on a high after two recent podium places in the Extreme Sailing Series and line honors at the Palby Fyn Cup we were delighted to shave 33 minutes off the past record with an outstanding result of just of 2 hours 6 minuties and 50 seconds. All in all we enjoyed perfect sailing conditions with up to 20 knots of breeze at times. Joining us onboard, were Youth Team members Daniel Bjørnholt, Nicolaj Bjørnholt and Søren Kristensen we pushed hard right to the finish line! Looking ahead to Porto, the team objective is to keep the pressure on and to continue our move on up the leader board. We will strive for more podium finishes and will focus on getting great starts under our belts…Bring it on!' Jes Gram-Hansen.
