No lead is safe or insurmountable At key West Race Week 2011 no lead is safe or insurmountable. A mere two points separate Warpath and Goombay Smash in Melges 32 after the discard was factored in following six races. Things tightened up considerably in the Mini Maxi class on Thursday as Bill Koch (Palm Beach, Fla.) and the Titan team posted two good results to put pressure on Dan Meyers (Boston, Mass.) and Numbers boys.

Key West Race Week is officially on the homestretch with absolutely no change in the top three Melges 32 fleet leaders. Key West Race Week - Warpath leads going into final day of racing - Steve Howe's Warpath (Morgan Larson, tactician) is very much in charge, Doug Douglas' Goombay Smash (Chris Larson, tactician) holds steady in second while Alex Jackson on Leenabarca (Rob Greenhalgh, tactician) is third overall. Friday's racing is destined to be intense as only three points separate the top runners.

Every race counts at a highly-competitive, week-long regatta such as Key West 2011, presented by Nautica. Every race counts at a highly-competitive, week-long regatta such as Key West 2011, presented by Nautica. Light winds allowed for only one race on Wednesday, but it proved crucial as there were changes atop the standings in some classes while others found the top boats consolidate their leads.
