Joyon, Peyron, tight match racing in Germany but where is Ireland?

Match Race Germany, the second event on the World Match Racing Tour calendar is underway on Lake Constance. French sailor, Mathieu Richard tops the WRMT leaderboard and is hoping for a good placing at Match Race Germany to increase his overall lead.

Francis Joyon has announced his entry into the J.P. Morgan Asset Management Round the Island Race. Joyon and his 30 metre red Trimaran Idec II will be hoping to beat their own 2001 record of 3.08.29.

A 'pea-souper' fog has added a degree of difficulty to the Normandy Channel Race; Thomas Ruyant and Tanguy Leglatin currently lead the race.

‘Mr Multihull’ Loick Peyron takes over the helm of the Extreme 40 Oman Sails Masirah for the Extreme Sailing Series Europe, the RC44 Class has announced its first World Championship is set for Puerto Calero (Canary Islands) in October and the Louis Vuitton Trophy teams are in La Maddalena (Italy) for a planned Saturday start to the latest event.

The latest ISAF World Match race Rankings have been published with Mathieu Richard, Damien Iehl and Sebastien Col and Claire Leroy all in the top ten.

Volvo Ocean Race to be contested over longest distance in history
Tough, intense, and featuring almost three times as much Southern Ocean sailing as the previous edition The 43-year-old race around the world – the ultimate ocean marathon, pitting the sport’s best sailors, against each other across the world’s toughest oceans – will start from Alicante in late 2017 with a 700nm sprint to Lisbon, Portugal that will provide the first test of the form guide.

Volvo Ocean Race adds full Southern Ocean Leg and 5000nm to new course
Volvo Ocean Race has announced a new course for the 2017/18 round the world event. Several major changes are planned including a return to a full Southern Ocean leg, and the addition of a massive Leg 5 of 13,300nm - the longest leg ever sailed in the Volvo Ocean Race. By way of comparison a minimum circumnavigation around the planet is approximately 21,600nm to be recognised as, a record for the course by WSSRC.
