The Jennifer Goldsmith Trophy is race 1 in the Port Phillip Women's Championship Series - Port Phillip Women's Championship Series (PPWCS) Royal Melbourne Yacht Sqadron
The Port Phillip Women's Championship Series (PPWCS) kicks off next Sunday, 17th February, with the first of five races - the Jennifer Goldsmith Trophy.
Run by the Royal Melbourne Yacht Squadron (RMYS), the Jennifer Goldsmith Trophy is open to yachts with female helms. The crew can be mixed, or all male or all female, but the boat must be helmed by a woman for the duration of the race.
The trophy is sponsored by the Goldsmith family, in memory of Jennifer Goldsmith, a keen sailor and past Club Member of the Year at RMYS (the only female to date to win the award). As well as the beautiful crystal carved trophy, there are some fabulous prizes on offer (they remain secret until presentation after the race!).
The cost of entering the race is $25 per boat, which is donated to melanoma research. Boats will automatically be entered into PPWCS - at no extra cost.
The second race in PPWCS takes place the week after, Sunday 24th February, at the Royal Yacht Club of Victoria (RYCV). A new race on the RYCV sailing calendar, it is welcomed by Club Captain David Ellis. 'It's great to see PPWCS following the proven successful model of the Club Marine Series, combining races run by different clubs around the bay. It provides our club with the opportunity to introduce a new trophy event to appropriately acknowledge our female sailors.'
Races 3, 4 and 5 of PPWCS take place in April and May.
