It's still anyone's race - EDS Atlantic Challenge

by Susan Preston Davis on 25 Aug 2001
ECOVER IN THE EDS ATLANTIC CHALLENGE
DAILY REPORT NO: 43 (Day 11) Leg 5
DATE: Friday 24th August 2001

With just under 200 miles to go to the finish in St Malo, France, it is
still anyone's race in the final leg of the EDS Atlantic Challenge. Only
21 miles separate Kingfisher, ECOVER, Fila and Sill Plein Fruits with the
latter two sailing 2 and 3 knots respectively faster than the former pair.

This morning Conrad Humphreys on board ECOVER spoke to Race Headquarters
during the daily Radio Chat and explained 'We lost a bit to Kingfisher.
They seem to have a speed edge over us in these conditions, but now we are
back up to speed and pushing hard for the finish. We are still out to win
this leg.'

Over 180 miles off the lead now is Gartmore having suffered major damage
yesterday, losing their port rudder. The AlphaGraphics crew are now 646
miles back and have now lost the breeze almost completely.

With weather conditions likely to lighten further during the latter part of
today and throughout the night we are unlikely to see a finish here in St
Malo until late tomorrow or early Sunday.

Mike Golding and his crew are sponsored by ECOVER, producers of natural
cleaning and washing products for household and industrial uses. ECOVER
manufacture their products from their Ecological factory in Belgium.
Twenty years of dedicated research and development have enabled ECOVER to
produce washing and cleaning products, made from plant based ingredients
and minerals, with a performance equal to conventional cleaning products,
but which do not damage the environment and are safer for the skin.

ECOVER is the fastest growing brand of its' type and the sponsorship of
Mike Golding
and his crew in the EDS Atlantic Challenge will reinforce the natural link
between ECOVER and sailing - harnessing the power of nature to achieve
powerful performance.
