Israelis to challenge Hydro Tasmania Three Peaks

'Hydro Tasmania Three Peaks Race'
An Israeli team led by naval officer, Alon Peled, is planning to make a challenge in the Hydro Tasmania Three Peaks Race in 2008.

The three sailors and two runners have competed in the two United Kingdom races, the Scottish Islands Peaks Race in 2006 and the Barmouth to Fort William Yacht Race in 2004 and now plan to race in Tasmania next year to complete the 'Three Peaks Race circuit'.

All team members are officers in the Israeli Navy and are regular sailors in various regattas throughout Europe. All team members have yacht skipper certification but are very keen to arrive in Tasmania in time to familiarise themselves with the three running legs at Mt Strzelecki, Mt Freycinet and Mt Wellington.

'This is the first time that a team has challenged from Israel although in past races there have been teams from England, Wales and the United States. This team will add an exciting element to the twentieth race.' Race Director Alastair Douglas said.

The team has worked hard over the past seven months to find a suitable Australian yacht to charter and now appears to have secured a fast trimaran located in South Australia.
