Irish sailor Mags O’Sullivan seeks help getting to space

'Mags O’Sullivan in MiG Cockpit'    Irish Sailing Association
Irish sailor Mags O’Sullivan (Tralee Bay Sailing Club) is hoping to become the first Irish female astronaut and she needs your assistance to do it. Mags, who has been sailing from Fenit since she was a child, has applied for the Lynx Space Academy in the hopes of winning a seat to fly to space in the new Lynx X-COR Space vehicle.

As a pre-launch to their commercial space flights, Lynx Space Technologies have invited participants around the world to enter a competition in which one person will win a chance to fly to space and return an astronaut.

Currently the top 200 participants between Ireland and the UK will go through to the second stage of the competition where four participants will be picked to go to Florida to complete astronaut training.

A total of 22 people from around the world will be trained in Florida Space Camp for the third stage but only the top participant will win the coveted seat to fly to space in the new Lynx X-COR Space vehicle.

Having trained as a pilot in Kerry, she became the first Irish woman to fly to the edge of space in October 2011 in a MiG 29 Fulcrum in Russia experiencing Mach 1.94, speed 2,030 kmph, height 20,400m and six G-load.

Mags who is currently in 48th position is now seeking support from the Irish sailing community to get her to the second stage of the competition. She needs people to vote for for by clicking the VOTE button on her profile page on the Lynx Space Academy website.
