From the 5th until the 9th of February 2009, Takapuna Beach will be a FLYING Zone, with the International Moth Asia Pacific Circus coming to town.

The Moth Association has organised cheap freight for boats to be shipped from the Australian Moth Nationals, and along with an Australian contingent, there is good interest from boats from the USA, Sweden and the UK.

Along with the 9 race Asia Pacific Champs, we will be holding a sprint series on three of the evenings with races of only 5 minutes or less in duration, and the scoring being done by knockout, if your in the top two in your heats you go through to a quarter final, semi final etc.

With these boats regularly hitting 25 knots around a small 100metre course, there will be carnage, crashes and plenty of action for the spectators (Yachting can be spectator friendly you know)...

We are also in the process of seeking event sponsorship to be able award prize money for the sprint series. With a lot of media coverage and interest from the major TV channels in NZL to film this speckle, It would make for a wise sponsorship investment.

Here is also a link to a Youtube video of a grand prix event held in Dubai earlier this year with only six boats attending, when we already have interest from over 20 boats already! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mwIl19Ptp7s

Other news from New Zealand is that there is a rumour of a New Zealand builder starting to look at building affordable good boats in New Zealand. This is good news for the Moth class in New Zealand hopefully building the numbers in New Zealand.
