The 2014 International Fireball World Championships are taking place in Pattaya Thailand from the 22nd March to the 5th April.
While numbers will be on the low side for a Fireball event, the quality of the fleet will be high as always. The British will again be the boats to beat but they will be pushed by a number of the Aussies who are coming off a summer filled with tight racing.
Pattaya has a lot to offer both on and off the water. The Royal Varuna Yacht Club has hosted many world championships over the last 20 years and provides excellent racing followed by a great social atmosphere. The open plan layout with private swimming pool looking over the race course set the tone for the regatta. The food is both sensational and cheap and there are plenty of drinks on offer to toast the evening away.
Away from the yacht club there is the wild night life that Pattaya is known for in down town Walking Street or for those looking for something quieter Jontien Beach with its restaurants and low key markets provides plenty to see and do.
There are also the key attractions of Thailand – Elephant trekking, tiger shows, insurmountable buddas, beautiful beaches and cheap cheap shopping.
If we have gotten your attention and you are thinking you would like to be a part of this great experience, there are a number of people looking for crews.
We have one position on an Australian boat which has finished near the top of the fleet in his last three worlds. We then have a crewing position in a laid back boat that is sailing more for the Thailand experience than the results. There may also be a position for a helm coming up over the next week or so.
