Intensive search for missing 4-year old at Nambucca

Two Marine Rescue NSW units from the mid-north coast have taken part in the intensive search for a missing 4-year old boy at Nambucca. The boy, who suffers from Down Syndrome, had been last seen at midday yesterday with his three dogs.
A full search was commenced with units from SES, Rural Fire Service, VRA, Police and volunteers. A pair of pants belonging to the boy was found on a nearby beach increasing concern for his safety. The search had to be scaled down at nightfall and commenced again with more searchers this morning.
An on-water search was organised by Marine Area Command Coffs Harbour. After a brief search around the entrance to the Nambucca River this morning, the crew from Marine Rescue Nambucca cleared the bar at 5:30am to commence a close-in search of the rocky headland and beaches before teaming up with Marine Rescue Trial Bay and Coffs Harbour Water Police searching the water’s edge around Nambucca.
Marine Rescue Nambucca Unit Commander Owen Rushton said, 'At around 6:00 am we received word that the boy had been found hiding in bushes at the back of one of the beaches. The search was then called off.'
'It was very gratifying to hear that news,' said Commander Rushton. 'The boy was safe and well but he was transported to hospital for a check-up.'
