In depth with EZ-Q CAST

Fishing tackle stored throughout the house, in the garage and even loose lures rattling around in the car yet a tackle company brings out something new and of course, you just have to have it.

Japan tackle manufacture Duel which is more commonly known by westerners as Yo-Zuri, develops new an innovative lure designs annually. This year it is a new breed of squid jig which has hit tackle store walls.

To some, the humble squid jig is a simple design incorporating rear stainless barbs, a weight and a tow point. While all jigs do feature these attributes, Yo-Zuri pride themselves on new technology, forever increasing the ability to catch shy, cagey or spooky squid around the world.

The newest member of their already impressive range is the EZ-Q CAST. The EZ-Q CAST incorporates quite a number of features designed to make this jig appeal more so to squid than any other jig on the market.

The EZ-Q CAST contains a unique rolling shaft tow point which is also placed into the entire Yo-Zuri jig range. The rolling shaft is a swivel based tow point which eliminates line twist when the squid spin once hooked.

The weight design has also changed to a more slim lined wire rather then lead weight. This design prevents the ability to become snagged when worked in heavy weed beds of over reef and also enables a steady sink rate that will cause squid to attack while it is vulnerable.

The jigs cloth has also been upgraded to feature a UV reaction when placed into direct sunlight. Once the sun hits the jig, the UV rays cause the cloth to light up. Calamari hunt by sensing UV light which makes these jigs more life like.

The body design itself has also taken on a new shape design to replicate a shrimp or prawn. Shrimp and prawns are a common meal for squid and the more life like design forever increases the chances that the jig will be taken.

Adding to the lifelike appeal, Duel has designed specifically soft moulded legs which when in the water move like those on a real live shrimp. Squid use their tentacles to taste and with the soft feel to the EZ-Q CAST’S feet the squid will hold on to devour it rather than being inquisitive and shy. Often squid will grab a jig from the back before letting it go if it doesn’t feel or taste like something they are used to eating.

Continuing on with tradition, Duel have added in their unique stainless steel barb design. With many of today’s jigs, the barbs rust in weeks, break or fall out. The stainless configuration that Duel uses ensures they stay in the jig, don’t rust or fall out and continue to stay sharp.

With features such as what has been implemented into the EZ-Q CAST it is no wonder why they are so effective on squid.
