'President, Don Brooke, fires the traditional cannon to mark the Wakatere Opening Day 2008. Brooke is the son of one of the founders of the club, Jack Brooke.'    Christine Hansen

Many clubs in New Zealand have celebrated their Opening Day for the new season, over the last week or so. We present these scenes from Wakatere Boating Club on Auckland's North Shore as pretty typical, of many clubs around New Zealand. (Wakatere is the home club of Chris Steele, 2007 Optimist World Champion, and Paul Snow-Hansen, 2007 ISAF Youth Worlds Silver medallist).
