Out of the fog the Auckland to Noumea boats appeared then disappeared. Some of the RNZYS winter series fleet got a glimpse of the boats as they passed by near Rangitoto lighthouse doing gennaker peels and gybes while searching for the fickle breeze in the dense Auckland fog.

Limit and V5 appeared first side by side but Limit had to gybe away to avoid us, with V5 passing within meters from our bow before gybing to clear the lighthouse. Lion New Zealand gybed away with some more of the fleet sailing close by and others heard but not seen through the distant fog wall.
