The 21 strong RS:X girls fleet will be hotly contested at the ISAF Youth Worlds as rivalries from the Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games are renewed.
The top four Techno 293 finishers from the Youth Olympic Games will sail against each other in Zadar. Gold medallist Siripon Kaewduang-Ngam (THA), silver medallist Veronica Fanciulli (ITA), bronze medallist Audrey Yong (SIN) and Naomi Cohen (ISR) will all be sailing at their first ISAF Youth Worlds. But having large event experience the girls will certainly be aiming for another podium finish.
Singaporean Yong, who is number 110 in the world said, 'Most of the girls who are going to the Youth Worlds also sailed at the Youth Olympic Games and I haven't raced against them since then so it will be a nice surprise.
'I will enjoy racing against them and hope to go out there to get some really good experience in the Olympic event.'
All four have sailed on the 2010-2011 ISAF Sailing World Cup series ahead of the ISAF Youth Worlds recording some impressive results along the way to put them in a strong position coming into Zadar.
Lélia Winckler (BRA) will be sailing at her third consecutive ISAF Youth Worlds following her tenth place finish in Buzios, Brazil in 2009 and her 17th place in Istanbul, Turkey.
Georgia Schofield (NZL) and Simla Çilingiroglu (TUR) are also returning for their second ISAF Youth Worlds. So with a relatively inexperienced fleet of sailors experience may prove vital towards the end of the week.
Four points separated the top four RS:X Boys at the 2010 ISAF Youth Worlds with Mateo Sanz (ESP) taking the gold medal by two points over Cho Wonwoo (KOR). Pawel Tarnowski (POL) sealed the bronze medal with a final race bullet which knocked Louis Giard (FRA) down to fourth.
Sanz will be sailing at his third ISAF Youth Worlds in Zadar and will be aiming to secure back to back gold medals. Wonwoo recently sailed at the penultimate ISAF Sailing World Cup Regatta in Weymouth, Great Britain where he finished 37th. Wonwoo will be on the 2011 ISAF Athlete Participation Programme and will benefit from coaching from the World Youth Sailing Trust coach Hugh Styles and after coming so close in 2010 Cho will fancy his chances second time round.
Giard narrowly missed out on a medal in Zadar by a single point after Tarnowski won the final race. Second time round Giard will be looking for a podium finish.
Matias Canseco (PER) and Alejandro Monllor (PUR) will join Wonwoo on the Athlete Participation Program. Canseco and Monllor will be sailing at their first ISAF Youth Worlds but have experience of large regattas after they sailed at the Youth Olympic Games.
Sailing begins on Saturday 9 July with 12 races scheduled until Friday 15 View the entry list ISAF Youth Sailing World Championship website
