ISAF Youth Sailing Worlds - Australian Team selection policy released

The guidelines for the nomination and selection of the Australian Youth Sailing Team to compete at the 2013 ISAF Youth Sailing World Championship has been released by Yachting Australia.

The 2013 ISAF Youth Sailing World Championship will be held in Limassol, Cyprus, between July 11 and 20 with racing to take place in eight classes, Laser Radial for boys and girls, 420 for boys and girls, open 29er, open multihull and windsurfer for boys and girls.

To be eligible for the 2013 Australian Youth Sailing Team a sailor must be under the age of 19 at 31 December, 2013, and a current member of an Australian club affiliated with a State or Territory Yachting Association. A number of regattas will be used to determine the team with the scenario different for each class. Yachting Australia will conduct a nomination point score for the events, with the results used to select the Australian Youth Sailing Team.

The boys and girls Laser Radial representatives will be decided from results from the 2013 Australian Laser Radial Championship which will be held between 28 December and 4 January and the 2013 OAMPS Insurance Brokers Australian Youth Championship, being conducted between 6 and 10 January. Both events will be held at the Royal Yacht Club of Tasmania.

The Australian representative for the 420 boys and girls class will be decided following the 2013 Australian 420 Championship at Derwent Sailing Squadron between 28 December and 4 January, and the 2013 OAMPS Insurance Brokers Australian Youth Championship.

The 29er class crew will be selected from results at the 2013 Australian 29er Championship, being held between 27 December and 2 January at McCrae Yacht Club in Victoria, and the 2013 OAMPS Insurance Brokers Australian Youth Championship.

One event will be used to decide the boys and girls windsurfers crews, being the 2013 OAMPS Insurance Brokers Australian Youth Championship.

By prior agreement with the class association the open multihull crew will also be selected from one event, being the 2013 Australian Hobie 16 Championship, to be held at Port Melbourne Yacht Club between 28 December and 3 January.

The 2013 Sail First ISAF Youth Sailing World Championship has drawn to a close in Limassol, Cyprus The 2013 Sail First ISAF Youth Sailing World Championship has drawn to a close in Limassol, Cyprus, after five days of epic racing featuring 96 races. Over 350 sailors from 61 nations flew their national flag across eight youth events and at the closing ceremony on 19 July they gathered with coaches, volunteers, family and friends to celebrate their own personal successes and accomplishments.

ISAF Youth Sailing World Championship - Golden honours decided + Video
At the ISAF Youth Sailing Worlds, a number of sailors added their names to the list of gold medallists in Cyprus. At the ISAF Youth Sailing Worlds, Juan Perdomo (PUR), Lucas Rual and Emile Amoros (FRA) and Brazil’s Tiago Brito and Andrei Kneipp added their names to the list of gold medallists as racing concluded in Limassol, Cyprus. Perdomo overcame a tense finish to pick up the Laser Radial Boys gold whilst Lucas Rual and Emile Amoros (FRA) ended their regatta in style by recording their sixth race win.

At the 2013 ISAF Youth Sailing World Championship in Limassol, Cyprus, the world champions have been decided. At the 2013 ISAF Youth Sailing World Championship in Limassol, Great Britain’s Kieran Martin, China’s Lu Yunxiu, Norway’s Line Flem Host, Australia’s Carrie Smith and Ella Clark and New Zealand’s Isaac McHardie and Micah Wilkinson have won gold with a day to spare.

At the ISAF Youth Sailing World Championships, Kiwis Isaac McHardie and Micah Wilkinson are dominating the SL16 fleet. At the ISAF Youth Sailing World Championships, New Zealand’s Isaac McHardie and Micah Wilkinson are dominating the SL16 fleet after the third day of racing in Limassol, Cyprus. McHardie and Wilkinson have opened up a 14 point advantage over their rivals having won five of nine races with four remaining over the final two days of competition.

ISAF Youth Worlds - Shining in the Cypriot sun on day 2 + Videos
At the ISAF Youth Sailing World Championships, Ilaria Paternoster and Benedetta di Salle shone in the Cypriot sun. At the 2013 ISAF Youth Sailing World Championships, defending 420 Girls Champions Ilaria Paternoster and Benedetta di Salle shone in the Cypriot sun on the second day of racing. An afternoon sea breeze kicked as 14 knots of consistent wind with gusts of up to 20 knots allowed the 351 sailors from 61 nations to complete a busy day of intense racing.

ISAF Youth Worlds - Birthday treat for Ukrainian windsurfer + Videos
At the Sail First ISAF Youth World Championships, the Ukraine’s Oleksandr Tugaryev earned himself a birthday treat. At the Sail First ISAF Youth World Championships, the Ukraine’s Oleksandr Tugaryev earned himself a birthday treat by recording two race victories and a eighth in the RS:X Boys. The Ukrainian revelled in a steady 16 knot afternoon breeze but taking the lead is Great Britain’s Kieran Martin who demonstrated great consistency posting a bullet, a second and a third.

The 2013 Sail First ISAF Youth Sailing World Championship had its opening ceremony in Limassol, Cyprus. The 2013 Sail First ISAF Youth Sailing World Championship had its opening ceremony in Limassol, Cyprus, with ISAF President Carlo Croce officially welcoming 351 sailors from 61 nations. Sixty one flag bearers and their teams paraded from Limassol’s old castle towards Limassol promenade where local people, tourists, families and friends attended to view the spectacle.

2013 Sail First ISAF Youth Worlds Championship - No RS-X Certainties
At the ISAF Youth Sailing World Championship, Great Britain’s Saskia Sills will aim to defend her RS:X Girls title. At the Sail First ISAF Youth Sailing World Championship, Great Britain’s Saskia Sills will aim to defend her RS:X Girls title whilst an open RS:X Boys fleet means no certainties. The 2013 Sail First ISAF Youth Sailing World Championship is set to take place in Limassol, Cyprus from 13-20 July with more than 350 sailors from 61 nations set to compete. Among the fleet will be twenty nine 29er teams and fifteen SL16 teams – set to take to the start line when racing commences on 15 July.
