ISAF Rolex World Sailor of the Year Award – Team Maclaren reports on Anna Tunnicliffe´s nomination as a finalist:

Great news for Team Maclaren!!! Anna was nominated for the 2011 Rolex ISAF World Sailor of the Year. The announcement was made earlier today when the final list of nominees was released. The winner will be selected from this list of four sailors on November 8th at the ISAF annual meeting in Puerto Rico. The nominees are selected based on their performance from September 1, 2010 through August 31, 2011. The public is encouraged to nominate athletes based on their performance and a selection committee selects the top resumes and nominates them as finalists for this great award.

Anna has been a nominee three times now, and won the award in 2009. She said 'It is such an honor to be nominated for this award. The nominees for 2011 have had amazing years and it's truly a surprise to be on the list with them.' Although she is nominated as an individual, she chalks up her successful year to her team mates Molly and Deb. 'Molly and Deb have been a huge part of this year's success. Everything we did this year was a combo of the three of us; there is no one standout person on our team. Team Maclaren has been putting in an incredible amount of time both on and off the water and to be nominated for this award in recognition of our hard work is very satisfying.' says Anna.

The nominees for this year's award are:
Dee Caffari (GBR) - Record Breaking Round The World Yachtswoman
Sarah-Quita Offringa (ARU) - Double Professional Windsurfing Association World Champion
Alexandra Rickham (GBR) - ISAF Sailing World Cup Champion and IFDS World Champion

For now, however, the team is still preparing for the upcoming US Olympic Trials part 1, to be held Oct 25-30 at Key Biscayne YC, Miami.

As part of their preparation, the team is joined again by Liz (Bower) Lewin as they will be competing, starting tomorrow, in the Santa Maria Cup in Annapolis, MD. This is a grade 1 event with eight teams from five countries. You can follow along on the regatta website, and nightly blogs will be posted on the team's website. Team Maclaren would like to thank The Boatyard Bar and Grill for their support of the team during the Santa Maria Cup.

Sail Hard,
Anna

Volvo Ocean Race – MAPFRE seal overall Leg Zero victory
ast-improving Vestas 11th Hour Racing took the stage win with the shortest Distance to Finish at 0430 UTC. The decision to call a halt to the racing came late on Tuesday night as the stage had become a drifting contest, with the teams making a series of expensive gybes in a bid to find some wind, and latest ETAs predicting that the boats would not reach Lisbon until well into Thursday.
