Der blev ikke taget særlige hensyn, da Hans Kongelige Højhed Kronprins Frederik i dag sejlede mod det danske stortalent inden for matchrace, Nicolai Sehested, under ISAF Nations Cup 2013 Grand Final i Middelfart.

Det var en smilende kronprins, der steg i land efter en halv time på vandet, selvom et intenst opgør på vandet ikke faldt ud til den kongelige side. I disse dage bliver der sejlet et VM for matchrace, og sejladserne blev afbrudt en times tid midt på dagen for at give plads til eventmatchen.

På første opkryds fik Kronprinsen - og hans team af tidligere OL-sejlere, anført af sejlerlegende Jesper Bank - ikke givet plads nok til modstanderen i en infight. Det resulterede i en straf fra dommerne. Straffen var en 360 graders vending af båden, som skulle udføres inden målstregen. Og den vending kostede det lille forspring, som kronprinsen havde på det tidspunkt.

'Det var sjovt at være her i dag og mærke spændingen. Og jeg blev guidet roligt igennem af min gode ven Jesper Bank, der var taktiker. Vi ville gerne have sejlet tre sejladser, men der var desværre ikke tid til mere i dag,' fortalte HKH Kronprins Frederik efter matchen.

Fra vinderen var der stor ros til kronprinsen og hans besætning. 'Det var den tætteste match vi har sejlet til dette stævne. Imponerende at de bare springer om bord uden at have trænet sammen, og så sejler næste op med os, der sejler som fast team. Det var kun en bådslængde, der skilte os ad,' forklarede Nicolai Sehested.

ISAF Nations Cup 2013 Grand Final sejles indtil lørdag eftermiddag, hvor der kan kåres en vinder.
