'Homenaje al almirante Marcial Sánchez - Barcáiztegui - Trofeo SM La Reina'    José Jordán / Trofeo SM La Reina

El Real Club Náutico de Valencia ha dedicado esta mañana un emotivo homenaje al almirante Marcial Sánchez-Barcáiztegui, socio de honor del club que fue delegado de Vela de la Armada hasta 2011 y presidente de la Comisión Naval de Regatas de Baleares, y que falleció en julio del pasado año. El Trofeo SM La Reina, la regata más importante del club, es una prueba dedicada a la Armada Española y que desde hace veintiséis ediciones lleva el nombre del almirante Marcial Sánchez-Barcáiztegui.

El acto ha contado con la presencia del Almirante General Jefe del Estado Mayor de la Armada, Jaime Muñoz-Delgado y Díaz del Río, el presidente del Real Club Náutico de Valencia, Manuel Pons y la hija del almirante Patricia Sánchez-Barcáiztegui, junto con otros miembros de la familia. También han asistido varios miembros de la Armada Española así como la tripulación del Aifos, embarcación de esta institución que participa en la regata y numerosos regatistas que han querido mostrar su cariño al almirante.

El presidente del Club y el Jefe del Estado Mayor de la Armada han descubierto una placa en el salón social del Real Club Náutico de Valencia, junto a las dedicadas a los regatistas más destacados de la institución, 'el sitio que más le apetecería' según ha indicado el presidente.

'Marcial ha sido posiblemente la persona que más hecho en favor de la vela, junto con la Armada Española, a la que rinde homenaje esta regata' ha señalado Manuel Pons, indicando que el programa de vela de la Armada ha sido 'un vivero de regatistas de primer orden' y que muchas de las medallas olímpicas españolas en este deporte han sido gracias a la labor que llevó a cabo el almirante 'con mucho empeño y pocos recursos'.

Por su parte, el almirante Muñoz-Delgado ha destacado que Sánchez-Barcáiztegui ha sido 'un ejemplo en el que se han fijado todos los regatistas, fuera y dentro de la Armada' cuyo empeño contribuyó a promocionar este deporte. 'Mantendremos la imagen del almirante siempre viva con nosotros', ha asegurado.

La hija del homenajeado, Patricia Sánchez-Barcáiztegui, se ha mostrado muy emocionada y ha comentado que 'la familia tiene claro cuánto le queríais, más muestras de cariño es imposible'.

Sobre Marcial Sánchez-Barcáiztegui
Nacido en El Ferrol en 1920, Sánchez-Barcáiztegui fue uno de los personajes más relevantes de la vela española y tuvo un papel fundamental en la difusión de este deporte en nuestro país. Ilustre marino y regatista internacional, fue el impulsor de la clase Snipe de la Armada, Delegado de Vela de la Armada hasta 2011, siendo nombrado Delegado de Vela Permanente Honorifico y presidente de la Comisión Naval de regatas de Baleares. En 1988, el RCNV instauró el Trofeo Almirante Marcial Sánchez-Barcáiztegui, con el que quería rendir homenaje a la Armada Española y al almirante Marcial Sánchez-Barcáitegui. Un año más tarde S.M. El Rey aceptó la Presidencia del Trofeo, que desde hace quince ediciones lleva también el nombre de S.M. La Reina.

El Real Club Náutico de Valencia celebra los días 5,6 y 7 de julio de 2013 el XV Trofeo de S.M. La Reina – Regata Homenaje a la Armada – XXVI Copa Almirante Marcial Sánchez-Barcáiztegui. Se trata de uno de los eventos náuticos más relevantes del país, en el que compiten embarcaciones de Clase Crucero y que siempre ha contado con el apoyo de S.M. La Reina, la Familia Real y la más alta jerarquía de la Armada Española. El Trofeo de SM La Reina es una regata puntuable para la Copa de España de clase Crucero zona Comunidad Valenciana y para el Memorial Juan Moreno.

Para esta edición de la regata, el club cuenta con la colaboración de la Generalitat Valenciana, el Ayuntamiento de Valencia y Madrid 2020, Real Federación Española de Vela y Federación de Vela de la Comunitat Valenciana. También agradece el apoyo de los patrocinadores Conservas CUCA, Levante Wagen, Flash Catamarans, Grupo Panorama, Santader 2014, Coca Cola light, Varadero Valencia, Vodafone, Lotus Lounge Bar, Amstel, Plymouth, Zas Sailing y Navaltec.
