The YNZ Sailing Celebration is scheduled for Friday afternoon, when sailing’s 2012 Olympic medallists will be joined by medallists from previous Olympic Games at a public ‘Heroes and Legends’ poster signing and autograph opportunity on in Auckland.

Putting into effect the London Games slogan; ‘inspire a generation’, Jo Aleh, Polly Powrie, Peter Burling and Blair Tuke will all be there to show off their medals and sign autographs for fans. Other sailing medallists including Leslie Egnot, Jan Shearer, Rod Davis, Don Cowie, John Cutler, Bruce Kendall and Aaron McIntosh are all hoping to be there too.

Later on that evening a crowd of around 300 will celebrate a successful year of yachting achievement at the 2012 Yachting Excellence Awards dinner commencing at 7pm, where the winner of the Orbit Corporate Travel Sailor of the Year for 2012 will be announced.

The Celebrate Sailing afternoon is an initiative from Yachting New Zealand to give sailing fans, young and old, the opportunity to join the celebration, to meet some of the sport’s role models and to get up close and personal with some Olympic medals.

One of Yachting New Zealand’s Sailing… Have a Go! trailers will be on site for people to check out beginner boats, plus the actual 470 dinghy and 49er skiff that were sailed to Olympic glory by Jo and Polly, and Peter and Blair will be there too.

When: Friday 23rd November at 4:30pm (through until 5:45pm)

The place: Eastern end of the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron, Westhaven Marina, Auckland.

Parking: In the ‘white marked’ spaces around Westhaven Marina – a short walk may be necessary
