Sail-World.com : Help celebrate the 10 year anniversary at the Upto26Club Open Day
Help celebrate the 10 year anniversary at the Upto26Club Open Day

'Close racing in the Upto26 fleet - Upto26Club Open day'    Jo Parry

The Upto26 Yacht Club is having an Open Day at Auckland's Bayswater Marina on Sunday 6th December from 10.30am to 2.30pm.

In 1999, Bob Neville the Club President, formed the Club to cater for small boats. This enabled keelers and trailer yachts of similar size to race and cruise together, rather than being one or two small boats amongst a fleet of 35-50 footers!

This year in its 10th season, the Winter Series had 33 season entries making it one of the biggest fleets on the harbour. These yachts, owners and crew come from a variety of Auckland clubs. The Ponsonby Cruising Club is closely involved with the running of racing both on and off the water. This liaison enhances safety and ensures participation and fun on the water. The Upto26 Yacht Club supports the flagship races and cruising of a number of Auckland clubs.

We are delighted that one Reactor confirmed for the day will be 'Wishbone' whose skipper, Trish Lewis, already has to her credit competed in two-handed races to Russell, Tauranga and White Island. Trish has now entered the single handed race from New Plymouth to Mooloolooba (Queensland)! Wishbone is now equipped to Category One for offshore racing. Come and see this hardy boat and meet the crew.

On display will be a variety of different classes of small keel boats. A rigger and sailmaker will be in attendance to give advice and answer any questions. All owners and those interested in small boats are welcome to attend. There will also be a free sausage sizzle!

To celebrate our 10 years since our club was formed, we have a fabulous spot prize of some brand new fishing gear. We'll be giving this away on the day, but you have to be there to win! Wear your Upto26Club t-shirt or cap to get an extra ticket in the draw.

You'll find plenty of parking at Baywater marina, and directions to the boats at the gate.

See www.upto26club.org.nz for more information and plenty of pictures, stories and racing results.
