Heaven Can Wait - online charity competition - the Heavens opened

'Heaven Can Wait -some of the leading boats'    .

Last year the Heaven Can Wait 24 hour race raised nearly $13,000 for charity and this year the Heaven Can Wait Yacht Club is well ahead of that record with online funds now closing on $15,000 and entry fees and other donations expected to add another $5,000 to the tally. - Just a few dollars more needed to reach that magic $15,000 target.

In a Heaven Can Wait first, a virtual web based sponsorship race is increasing donations collected for the Cancer Council of NSW and widening audience participation ahead of the 24 hours race and the One Lap Dash and now since.

Hosted by the not for profit organisation Everyday Hero, individual web pages for each boat entered in this year's Heaven Can Wait event were created with the facility to donate in the name of your favourite boat or crew.

As totals are tallied for each boat individually it allows for the natural competitive streak in all yachties to shine with each boat and crew chasing down sponsorship from friends and workmates in order to advance themselves in the standings.

Here is the latest listing of those boats that raised $100 more more

Deja Vu Team $475.00 AUD

Mark Hastings the Heaven Can Wait Sponsorship Captain explained today 'We are immensely grateful for all the donations made so far.

'Our ability to use a secure third party organisation, Everyday Hero to process all donations and issue tax receipts has lifted a huge burden off the Heaven Can Wait organisers and also allowed for significant reductions in entry fees, which up until now, were the primary source of charitable revenue gathering.

'Early adopters have driven this virtual race from its inception and to their credit have raised significant funds in a short period of time.

'So the challenge is there for those entered in either the 24hr or the One Lap Dash who could have done better on the water to climb the leaderboard with this virtual online contest.

'Not all your mates were able to enjoy the exquiste pain of getting soaked to the skin on Lake Macquarie thiis year but they sure can help in our race to raise a record level of funds for the Cancer Council in 2009.'
