Hamilton Island Race Week - A great week for Beneteau owners
|
August is a wonderful month for Australian sailors alike; for many its the pinnacle of the year taking their yacht north for Hamilton Island race week to do battle around the stunning Whitsunday Islands while having the opportunity to enjoy some exquisite cruising with family and friends, sharing priceless experiences aboard their yacht. Beneteau Vicsail invited the Beneteau family to join the team at the exquisite yacht club for lunch and to let their hair down with entertainment from ‘The Scottys', enjoy the chance to win some great prizes from TBS (Scott Birdsall), AC Shoes (Chris McSorely) Waterford cut class crystal vases and many more. Our owners also got to enjoy a duet from the well know, John Clinton (Holy Cow owner) and Brendan Hunt, this defiantly was a sight not to miss! This year saw great success for our Beneteau owners with four divisional winners and many top performances in toe, highlighting the depth and talent of sailor's among our owners and the versatility of their Beneteau's. The conditions saw light and variable winds testing the patience of all during the first half of the regatta, replaced by a gusty SE'erly change later in the week, enabling a full compliment of conditions to test the form of all! And the winners were; Performance Passage Division 1 Ben McGrath skippered Iago a Beneteau 40 to a convincing victory, consistent top 5 results setting up his great result. Performance Passage Division 2 Ian Ford in Whalewatchingsydney FIRST40.7 won with some excellent sailing seeing 2 race wins and consistent finishes throughout the regatta, never leaving him outside the top 10 in any race. Cruising Division 2 Kym Clarke in Imagine came all the way from SA to claim first place, so convincing was Kym's win she dropped her last race result to still win overall. Cruising Non Spinnaker Ivor Burgess in his Oceanis 423 Still Dangerous won by a comfortable margin living up to his yachts namesake! Ivor and his team claimed third place at Airlie Beach race week as well - congratulations for a great run of results. Some further notable results were; IRC Passage Div 1 - Andrew Saies FIRST 40 finished fourth overall just 1 point off a podium position. Andrew and his team have continued a very successful year, congratulations again. Howard Piggott in his FIRST 40 Flying Cloud finished sixth overall consolidating on their divisional win at Airlie Beach race week earlier in the month. Cruising Div 2 - Bo Wharton in his Oceanis 473 Mango Madness finished third overall. Cruising Non-Spinnaker - Sue and Allan Pick in Supertramp an Oceanis 46 finished clear second sailing a fantastic regatta throughout. Hamilton Island Race Week continues to shine brightly as Australia's premier yachting event, not only does it have great synergy between racing and cruising but the Regatta itself is a first class event and one worthy of repeat visits! We at Vicsail Sydney - Beneteau Headquarters love being involved each year and look forward to mingling amongst you all next year. Congratulations to the winners and everyone who participated.
