Day two of racing at the 2007 Hamilton Island Farr 40 Australian Championship and there has been a change of leader. Lang Walker and the team on Kokomo sailed a fantastic day to finish 4,1,1 in the second day of racing which was held offshore off the Macquarie lighthouse on Sydney's South Head.

'We’re very happy with today's results and will be aiming to do as well tomorrow. Today was a day of working your advantages and holding off challenges', commented Walker.

The fleet started the day out in an eight knot breeze from the north nor’east and it fluctuated in strength between 10 -14 knots and swung to the nor’east in the latter races.

Race four of the series and Ivan Wheen’s Sputnik locked into first place for the entire race to hold off the competition and to take the gun from Michael Milne’s Blacksnake who shadowed them around the racecourse. Matt Allen’s Ichi Ban who overnight held second place mirrored the performance of the first two boats and crossed the line in third.

In race five Kokomo and Sputnik switched their early race places to finish in first and second respectively while Stephen Boyes’s Wired sailed the first leg well to round in third place but dropped back to finish fifth in the 12 boat fleet. Marcus Blackmore’s Hooligan improved from a first mark rounding of fourth to finish in third place.

'We’re happy with today’s performance, the crew worked well and handled the bigger masthead spinnakers well', remarked Sputnik tactician Tom King.

The building breeze set the scene for the last race of the day and in the beginning it looked like a repeat of day one results for Richard Perini’s Evolution but with Kokomo, Evolution and Ichi Ban fighting for gains on the last down wind leg Kokomo and Evolution ended the race in a match race. Kokomo managed to hold off Evolution who ended up hitting the pin on the finish line and had to return to cross the line again giving Kokomo the victory while Ichi Ban crossed in close second followed by Sputnik in third.

Wired continues to lead the Corinthian division by one point from Jeff Carter’s Revolution Edake and Andrew Short’s Andrew Short Marine is in third.

Racing wraps up tomorrow with three races planned for offshore with the forecast for cloudy periods with a shower or two and moderate to fresh southerly winds.
